John Charles Nichols

Susan Lee nominated John Charles for The Caught In The Act Honor from Nations Outfitters:

John Charles is an amazingly compassionate young man! He cares about other people and is seen as a leader by his peers, teachers, and church leaders. John Charles is involved in many aspects of his school. He also is a leader in his church youth group as a representative. But a large majority of his time is spent volunteering with the Respite Care Ministry, a ministry which cares for children birth-21 years with disabilities so their parents can have a night out. He also helps recruit other youth to assist the ministry. In addition to this, he has volunteered the past 2 summers at United Cerebral Palsy of Greater Birmingham's Hand-in-Hand as a “Jean Teen.“ John Charles is an amazing teen with a heart for children with special needs! He has dedicated his time to help others in any way he can.

I am fifteen years old and am a sophomore at Hoover High School. I am blessed to have a wonderful church home at Saint Mark United Methodist Church. I count myself very fortunate to attend a church and a school that provide me with many opportunities to give back to my community. My sister and I have always had a special place in our hearts for children with special needs. Respite care, a ministry for children with special needs and their families, is one of many places that allow me the privilege to get to know many wonderful children, with and without disabilities. Whenever I go, I always leave with a smile on my face and on my heart. I learn so much from the love these children show to everyone they encounter. It is like the unconditional love that Christ shows for all of us.
I also love to serve my community in other ways, including firehouse shelter ministry, youth praise band, and Jean Teens. Micah 6:8 commands, “To do justice, to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God.” In my life, I believe that one way I can live out this verse is by serving others as Christ served. I am constantly striving to devote more of my life to service, in hopes of bringing glory to God.
