Why hello! My name is Chaney White and in May of 2009, I began teaching a two year old class at the Church of Brook Hills. I had always been told that teachers were needed in childcare, so I decided that I would help. Ever since then I have enjoyed every Sunday being with these precious children. I have kept the same group of kids and now they are four! It is such a blessing to hear their sweet prayers, and to hold them in my lap when we hear a story about Jesus. I honestly believe that being with them every week has helped me grow spiritually, and it keeps reminding me to have “child- like” faith. This summer I also participated in two Rock the Block camps with inner city children. It is really fascinating how little kids that are in completely opposite sides of the street are searching for the same thing.
When I was in seventh grade I had a mentor to look up to. Her name is Beth Stanley, and she would meet with me once a week and we would have a life group together and talk about school family and problems. Meeting with her really helped me in the awkward days of Junior High. Now as a senior, I meet with three seventh grade girls every Sunday. We eat dinner together, go get Starbucks and talk about what’s going on in their lives. I know how much Beth helped me and I hope my girls will always know that I am there for them no matter what.
